(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Thomas K. Leguern, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as a Company Executive Officer in the 894th Tank Destroyer Battalion, FIFTH U.S. Army, in action against enemy forces near Tarquina, Italy, on 8 June 1944. First Lieutenant Leguern dismounted from his tank destroyer when its fire failed to silence enemy guns, and single-handed, knocked out three German positions with hand grenades. First Lieutenant Leguern single-handedly wiped out an enemy pillbox, paving the way for an Allied advance. His extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
