The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Lieutenant William Plimley, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 2 April 1865, while serving with Company F, 120th New York Infantry, in action at Hatcher’s Run, Virginia. While acting as Aide to a general officer, First Lieutenant Plimley voluntarily accompanied a regiment in an assault on the enemy’s works and acted as leader of the movement which resulted in the rout of the enemy and the capture of a large number of prisoners.
