On April 19, 1959, George Krasevac was fishing smelt with nets on Lake Superior when a large wave knocked him off his feet. His fellow fishermen and a passerby attempted to resuscitate him but to no avail. He apparently died of exhaustion and overexposure and not by drowning.

First Lieutenant Krasevac’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
