Kehoe (ASN: 19120030), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company M, 3d Battalion, 305th Infantry Regiment, 77th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces at Shuri, Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, on 14 May 1945. As a machine gun section leader, Technical Sergeant Kehoe was ordered to dig a gun position facing the air strip on the island of Ie Shima. At 10:30 that night, the Japanese attacked with grenades and sharpened bamboo poles, across the field. Holding his position, more than 153 Japanese dead littered the area. Technical Sergeant Kehoe’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 77th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
