The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) ***** *****, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as a Combat Medic at Special Operations Task Force-SOUTHEAST in direct support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM on 3 October 2012. Senior Chief Petty Officer ***** distinguished himself by saving the life of a wounded teammate and single-handedly leading a vicious counterattack against an insurgent stronghold. While executing an assault on an enemy commander’s compound, his helicopter began receiving effective enemy fire. Undeterred by the violent attack, Senior Chief Petty Officer ***** inserted with the ground force and commenced the assault. Shortly after, his element was ambushed with accurate machine gun fire. Senior Chief Petty Officer ***** was shot in the leg and his teammate was severely wounded, becoming isolated from his element. Despite continuous incoming machine gun fire, he left his position of cover and advanced through the enemy fire to provide critical lifesaving care. With complete disregard for his own wounds, he continued on to deliver medical treatment to stabilize his wounded teammate, and maneuvered toward the insurgent position to engage the barricaded enemy fighters, eliminating the threat. As the firefight continued, Senior Chief Petty Officer ***** returned and coordinated a swift medical evacuation and transported his teammate to the helicopter. His unselfish formidable drive undoubtedly saved the life of his teammate. Senior Chief Petty Officer *****’s bold initiative, undaunted courage, and unyielding dedication to duty reflected great credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
