The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) ***** *****, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as an Assault Team Member while assigned to a Joint Task Force in direct support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM on 4 February 2008. On this date, Chief Petty Officer *****’s unit came under heavy enemy fire from three separate locations during an assault on an enemy held village. After an initial barrage of enemy fire, two of his teammates lay wounded in the doorway of the target building. Despite heavy enemy fire and with complete disregard for his own safety, Chief Petty Officer ***** bravely moved across the open courtyard to the doorway to help recover his fellow SEAL team member. While his teammates provided cover fire, he courageously crossed the open ground, recovered one of the wounded SEALs, and dragged him away from the immediate enemy threat. Despite repeated enemy fire, Chief Petty Officer ***** heroically went back to the doorway a second time to retrieve the remaining wounded service member. Again, under heavy enemy fire and with complete disregard for his own safety, he and his team leader recovered their fallen brothers from the doorway of the compound. Chief Petty Officer *****’s daring actions, bold initiative, and complete dedication to duty reflected great credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
