The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Special Warfare Operator First Class (SEAL) *****, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as an Assault Team Member in direct support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM on 4 February 2008. On this date, Petty Officer *****’s unit came under heavy fire from three separate locations during an assault on an enemy held village harboring several senior leaders. During the assault, a tremendous barrage of enemy fire from one of the buildings severely wounded two of his teammates and wounded a third SEAL next to him. Petty Officer ***** immediately returned fire and quickly grabbed the wounded SEAL, moving him out of enemy fire and to a medic. Knowing two other teammates were severely wounded and still exposed to enemy fire, he courageously maneuvered across an open courtyard to get to the doorway, return fire, and, with the assistance of another SEAL, pulled one of the wounded team members from the open doorway to a covered position where he could receive medical care. Petty Officer ***** then moved to a window where he delivered covering fire at the determined enemy at point-blank range so his other teammates could reach the last injured SEAL lying exposed to the enemy. By his bold leadership, courageous actions, and complete dedication to duty, Petty Officer ***** reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
