The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Special Warfare Operator First Class (SEAL) ***** *****, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as an Assault Team Member for a Joint Task Force in direct support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM on 10 November 2007. During an assault on a senior terrorist leader, Petty Officer ***** maneuvered his team into the primary target compound. When an enemy fighter appeared at the threshold of the entry armed with an AK-47, Petty Officer ***** immediately engaged and eliminated the threat at point blank range. A second fighter, also armed with an AK-47, then engaged him with the muzzle blast so close that it burned his face and left gun powder residue on his night vision goggles. Despite the fact his vision was impaired; Petty Officer ***** used his body to shield his teammates from the barricaded fighter. With bullets still impacting the doorway he employed a grenade, destroying the enemy fighter and collapsing the building. After the explosion, four additional fighters emerged and engaged the assault element. Without hesitation, he maneuvered with his team to engage the four barricaded fighters. Once the threat was neutralized, Petty Officer ***** provided medical care to wounded non-combatants. By his bold initiative, undaunted courage, and total devotion to duty, Petty Officer ***** reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
