The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Special Warfare Operator Second Class (SEAL) ***** *****, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as Primary Communicator for Delta Platoon, Naval Special Warfare Task Group-Arabian Peninsula, in direct support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM on 16 May 2006. Petty Officer ***** was a member of a joint, combined overwatch element conducting operations in the Ma’ laab District of Ramadi. The enemy engaged his element with automatic weapons fire as they crossed a street, wounding an Iraqi soldier. With complete disregard for his own safety, he exposed himself to enemy fire and assisted the wounded Iraqi soldier to safety. Shortly thereafter, a United States Marine Corps gunnery sergeant received a gunshot wound to his leg and collapsed in the street, exposed to direct enemy fire. Again, with complete disregard for his own safety, Petty Officer ***** charged toward the wounded Marine, exposing himself to direct enemy fire and providing suppressive fire while helping the Marines move out of danger. Once they reached cover, he calmly called for a quick reaction force and casualty evacuation. By his bold initiative, undaunted courage, and complete dedication to duty, Petty Officer ***** reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of United States Naval Service.
