The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Quartermaster (SEAL) ***** *****, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as Leading Chief Petty Officer, ALFA Platoon, SEAL Team FIVE, Element Commander, and Tactical Shift Lead for the Protective Security Detail of a Foreign Head of State, while deployed with Naval Special Warfare Task Group Arabian Peninsula I in direct support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM from 1 October 2004 to 20 March 2005. Despite repeated and credible threats against the Head of State, Chief Petty Officer ***** performed superbly as the Tactical Leader for the Head of State’s inner layer of security, leading a team of 24 security personnel, 40 Military Police, 11 up-armored motorcade vehicles, 60 Iraqi Protective Security Detail members, 80 Iraqi site security guards, and 20 contracted security personnel Additionally, he served with distinction as element leader in 20 offensive sniper combat operations and 10 direct action operations in the worst neighborhoods of Mosul and Baghdad, Iraq. Under continuous and effective fire, Chief Petty Officer ***** disregarded his own safety to coordinate his element’s fields of fire and coverage area to repel numerous enemy assaults and flanking movements . His team was directly responsible for more than 15 confirmed enemies destroyed and ten wounded, including three high value targets. By his bold leadership, wise judgment, and complete dedication to duty, Chief Petty Officer ***** reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
