The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant ***** *****, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as Officer-in-Charge, Naval Special Warfare Task Unit-RAMADI Detachment Corregidor, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM on 19 November 2006. During a sniper over-watch mission in the heart of Ramadi, Iraq, Lieutenant *****’s position was attacked with grenade and small arms fire from multiple fortified positions, wounding one SEAL. He organized his element and. directed a counter-attack while ensuring that the Quick Reaction Force and Casualty Evacuation were called to his position. As the first element, composed of Iraqi army scouts and two SEALS exited the structure there was a massive explosion which killed one Iraqi scout and wounded all other members of the element. With total disregard for his own life, Lieutenant ***** quickly organized a rescue for the wounded personnel lying in the street, fought his way to one of the wounded SEALS, and dragged him from the middle of the street under heavy fire. He then provided immediate emergency medical care to the wounded SEAL, helping to save his life. By his bold initiative, courageous actions, and total dedication to duty, Lieutenant ***** reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
