The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) ***** *****, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as an Assault Team Leader while assigned to a Joint Task Force in direct support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM on 4 February 2008. On this date, Senior Chief Petty Officer *****’s unit came under heavy enemy fire from three separate locations during an assault on an enemy held village. When two of his teammates lay wounded, incapacitated, and exposed to enemy gunfire, Senior Chief Petty Officer ***** immediately moved from a protective wall to assist his fallen teammates. Under heavy enemy fire, he and a team member provided cover fire through a window just feet away from three barricaded enemy. This cover fire allowed fellow SEALS to recover one of their fallen teammates. Senior Chief Petty Officer ***** immediately prepared to rescue the second teammate still lying in the doorway. He provided covering fire while a teammate ran out into the courtyard to drag the last wounded SEAL to safety. Seeing his teammate struggle while completely exposed to the enemy, with complete disregard for his own safety, Senior Chief Petty Officer ***** ran out to help drag the last wounded SEAL to a covered position. By his courageous actions, bold initiative, and total dedication to duty, Senior Chief. Petty Officer ***** reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
