The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Special Warfare Operator First Class (SEAL) ***** *****, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as Naval Special Warfare Task Unit RAMADI, Charlie Platoon Leading Petty Officer during a clearance operation and follow-on direct action raid in South-Central Ar Ramadi, Iraq in direct support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM on 2 August 2006. While conducting a daytime clearance operation, a fellow SEAL was wounded by an enemy sniper. Without hesitation, Petty Officer ***** exposed himself to enemy sniper fire and personally carried his wounded teammate to safety and life-saving medical aid. During a follow-on raid of insurgent positions, a firefight ensued resulting in one SEAL killed and another wounded. With remarkable leadership, courage, and poise under fire, he led the charge up the stairwell toward the source of the enemy fire. Braving the¥ gauntlet of enemy fire, Petty Officer ***** cleared the roof and secured the target. His fearless leadership was instrumental in quickly delivering critical medical aid to his wounded SEALs and preventing further casualties in the midst of a savage firefight with enemy forces. By his bold leadership, courageous actions, and total dedication to duty, Petty Officer ***** reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions to the United States Naval Service.
