Paul Versaw graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut, Class of 1961. He returned to the Academy as Assistant Superintendent in 1988, and subsequently served as Superintendent of the Academy from 1993 to 1997. He retired as a U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral in 1997.
