John Henriques was selected to run the first cadet training ships, the Dobbin and the Chase, and served as the Superintendent of the Revenue Cutter School of Instruction from 1877 to 1883. In essence, he is considered the First Superintendent of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy that would be formed out of the School of Instruction.
