(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Technical Sergeant Olon Odell Jones (ASN: 18005356), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 1st Cavalry Division, in action against enemy forces near Catotocan, Leyte, Philippine Islands, on 25 December 1944. Technical Sergeant Jones sneaked in behind a Japanese mountain gun crew with his automatic rifle, killed 13 of the enemy, and dispersed the rest of the enemy so that his platoon could advance. Technical Sergeant Jones’ extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
