(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman First Class James W. Patterson, United States Navy, for heroism while participating in aerial flight on 4 June 1942. As Gunner of a Bombing Squadron SIX (VB-6) airplane, he participated in dive bombing attacks against Japanese naval forces in the Battle of Midway, 4 – 6 June 1942. His courageous conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
