(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Leopold Martin Ferko, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Fighter Pilot in Composite Squadron FOUR (VC-4), embarked in U.S.S. WHITE PLAINS (CVE-66), during the Battle for Leyte Gulf from 23 to 26 October 1944. During this 3-day period, Lieutenant Ferko shot down five enemy aircraft.
