(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Motor Machinist’s Mate Second Class John Hulik, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry in action against the enemy while serving aboard a United States Navy Motor Torpedo (PT) Boat during many combat patrols into enemy territory during World War II. On one night his boat suffered a direct hit which started a serous fire. He immediately went to the scene of the fire and made all possible efforts to control it. When his boat had to be abandoned, he allowed the weaker swimmers among the crew members the only available life raft. His refusal of assistance strengthened the morale of the whole crew. His auctions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
