(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant, Junior Grade James L. Thompson, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Boatswain of the U.S.S. SOUTH DAKOTA (BB-57), in action against enemy Japanese forces of the coast of Okinawa, on 6 May 1945.
