(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Alexander Carl Challis, United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroic conduct while serving as a Hospital Corpsman attached to the Twenty-First Marines, THIRD Marine Division, at Guam, on 21 to 22 July 1944. Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Challis, while under intense machinegun and mortar fire, boldly moved up and down the line to care for and assist in evacuating the wounded.
