(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Pharmacist’s Mate First Class Robert H. Tyas, United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal (Posthumously) for heroic conduct in attempting to rescue his Executive Officer who was trapped in the chart room of the U.S.S. SOUTHERN SEAS (PY-32), during a typhoon in Buckner Bay, Okinawa, on 9 October 1945.
