Butler, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Assistant and subsequently as Officer-in-Charge, Malaria and Epidemic Disease Control Unit, from 10 June 1943 to 10 June 1944.
