(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Mitchell J. Van Natta, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action as Plotting Officer in the U.S.S. CABRILLA (SS-288), during the SIXTH War Patrol of that Submarine off the northwest coast of Luzon, Philippine Islands, from 13 September 1944 to 25 October 1944. Lieutenant Van Natta was of invaluable assistance to his Commanding Officer in conducting successful attacks which resulted in the complete destruction of five enemy ships totaling approximately 29,900 tons. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship, and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
