    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant, Junior Grade John F. Hinchey, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as Radar Operator aboard the U.S.S. SEA DOG (SS-401), during the FOURTH War Patrol of that Submarine in the Sea of Japan from 26 May 1945 to 5 July 1945. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Hinchey assisted his Commanding Officer considerably in conducting attacks which resulted in the sinking of approximately 30,000 tons of enemy shipping. His coolness and high devotion to duty contributed directly to the success of his vessel in evading enemy countermeasures. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship, and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
