(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant George R. Sullivan, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot and Flight Leader in Composite Squadron FIVE (VC-5), embarked in U.S.S. KITKUN BAY (CVE-71), in the Battle off Samar, on 24 and 25 October 1944.
