Howison, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Co-Pilot of a Naval Airplane in Patrol Bombing Squadron ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-THREE (VPB-123), off the coasts of Tsushima and Goto Retto, on 4 June 1945.
