(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Robert W. Dickinson, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in the performance of his duties as Torpedo Officer in the U.S.S. BANG (SS-385), during the FOURTH War Patrol of that Submarine from 25 October to 5 December 1944. His outstanding ability while assisting his Commanding Officer contributed materially to the execution of attacks which resulted in sinking more than 15,000 tons and damaging over 4,000 tons of enemy shipping. His calm manner and devotion to duty contributed directly to the success of his vessel. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to all with whom he served and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
