Michelle Howard graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Class of 1982. She was the first woman to achieve 4-star rank in any of the services and the first African-American to achieve full (4-star) Admiral rank. As the 38th Vice Chief of Naval Operations, she is the first Black American and first woman to serve in either of the Navy’s top two posts.
