Durant, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Fighter Pilot in Fighting Squadron TWENTY-EIGHT (VF-28), embarked in U.S.S. MONTEREY (CVL-26), over the Philippine Islands, on 5 November 1944.
