Donnelly, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a Fighter Plane operating from the U.S.S. SANGAMON (CVE-26), during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, on 25 October 1944.
