Stebbings, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a Torpedo Plane in Torpedo Squadron ELEVEN (VT-11), embarked in U.S.S. HORNET (CV-12), in the vicinity of Formosa, on 21 January 1945.
