Foster, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Air Coordinator of a group of eight Torpedo Bombers and eight Fighter Planes in Composite Squadron EIGHTY-FIVE (VC-85), embarked in U.S.S. LUNGA POINT (CVE-94), over Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, in 1945.
