(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Rear Admiral George William Johnson, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commander Destroyer Division SIXTY-ONE, Escort Unit Commander and Administrative Commander, Destroyer Squadrons THIRTY and TWENTY-SEVEN, in the Atlantic Ocean, from the outbreak of hostilities in 1941 to August 1944.
