(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant, Junior Grade Leslie Thompson, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as Fire Control Officer of the U.S.S. JALLAO (SS-368), during the FIRST War Patrol of that vessel in enemy Japanese-controlled waters, from 9 October to 10 December 1944. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Thompson rendered invaluable assistance to his Commanding Officer in conducting an attack to sink an enemy cruiser of over 5,000 tons despite severe enemy counterattacks. His skill and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
