(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Captain William P. Chilton, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Gunnery Officer on the Staff of the Commander, Amphibious Group ONE, during the assault and capture of Saipan, Iwo Jima, and the occupation of Ulithi, from 27 February 1944 to 9 July 1945.
