(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Chief Machinist’s Mate Clarence B. Heid, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as Aviation Ordnance Officer aboard the U.S.S. FRANKLIN (CV-13), off Kobe, Japan, on 19 March 1945, when his ship was hit in an enemy air attack, and a series of violent explosions from ready bombs, rockets, and ammunition ensued.
