Olek, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Fighting Squadron SEVENTEEN (VF-17), embarked in U.S.S. HORNET (CV-12), over the Tokyo area, on 17 February 1945.
