The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Duncan Angus Campbell, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while commanding a PBY type airplane in successfully rescuing the members of the crew of another PBY type airplane which had been crippled by enemy fighters during a raid on Jolo Harbor, Sulu, Philippine Islands, on 27 December 1941, and further, for continuous hazardous flying achievement while on reconnaissance work in the Macassar Straits and night reconnaissance flights during the battle of the Java Sea.
