(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Commander Jay A. Easton, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action at Torpedo Data Computer Operator aboard the U.S.S. BARB (SS-220), during the EIGHTH War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy-controlled waters, from 21 May to 9 July 1944. Lieutenant Commander Easton assisted is Commanding Officer and contributed directly to his vessel’s success in sinking five enemy ships by torpedo fire and two enemy ships by gunfire for a total of 37,500 tons. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to all with whom he served and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
