James Winnefeld graduated from Georgia Tech in 1978 with high honors in Aerospace Engineering. Upon graduation he was commissioned in the Navy through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program. In August 2011, he was appointed the 9th Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
