McCrary, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Operations Officer for Aircraft, on the Staff of a Fast Carrier Task Group Commander during operations against the Japanese in the Pacific, from 10 February 1945 to 19 May 1945.
