    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Commander Theodore F. Grefe, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the U.S.S. CABRILLA (SS-288), during the SIXTH War Patrol of that Submarine off the northwest coast of Luzon, Philippine Islands, from 13 September 1944 to 25 October 1944. As Executive Officer, he rendered invaluable assistance to his Commanding Officer in conducting successful attacks which resulted in the complete destruction of five enemy ships totaling approximately 29,900 tons. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship, and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Commander Theodore F. Grefe, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as Assistant Approach Officer aboard the U.S.S. CABRILLA (SS-288), during the FIFTH War Patrol of that Submarine in the enemy-controlled Pacific Ocean Area from 3 July 1944 to 19 August 1944 in enemy controlled waters of the Sulu Sea. Lieutenant Commander Grefe materially assisted his Commanding Officer in attacks that sank 27,900 tons of enemy shipping. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
