(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Churchill J. Campbell, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as Officer of the Deck aboard the U.S.S. PARCHE (SS-384), during the SECOND War Patrol of that Submarine in the Pacific Ocean area from 17 June 1944 to 16 August 1944. Lieutenant Campbell aided his Commanding Officer materially in the sinking of four enemy ships totaling 34,000 tons and the damaging of an additional ship of 4,000 tons, and, in another encounter, the sinking of a 300-ton patrol vessel by gunfireHis gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
