    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Jack W. Hudson, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as Officer of the Deck aboard the U.S.S. ATULE (SS-403), during the FIRST War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy-controlled waters from 9 October 1944 to 11 December 1944. Lieutenant Hudson rendered invaluable assistance to his commanding officer in conducting successful torpedo attacks to sink over 25,000 tons of enemy shipping despite severe hostile countermeasures. His devotion to duty throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
