Churton, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a Fighter Plane in Fighting Squadron FOURTEEN (VF-14), embarked in U.S.S. WASP (CV-18), in the First Battle of the Philippines, on 20 June 1944.
