(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Commander Robert L. Smith, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as Assistant Approach Officer of the U.S.S. RAZORBACK (SS-394), during the SECOND War Patrol of that Submarine in enemy-controlled waters from 15 November 1944 to 5 January 1945. Lieutenant Commander Smith rendered invaluable assistance to his Commanding Officer in conducting attacks to sink 20,800 tons and to damage 5,400 tons of enemy shipping. His courage and devotion to duty contributed materially to the successful operations of his submarine and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
