Fitzgerald, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Torpedo Squadron FOURTEEN (VT-14), embarked in U.S.S. WASP (CV-18), over the Philippine Sea on 20 January 1944.
