De Veer, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Composite Squadron FORTY (VC-40), over the Bismarck Archipelago area from 13 September 1943 to 25 January 1944.
