Ritter, Jr., United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Fighting Squadron EIGHTEEN (VF-18), embarked in U.S.S. INTREPID (CV-11), during the Battle for Leyte Gulf on 24 October 1944.
